Criminal Injuries Compensation Claims Time Limits
Please be aware that strict time limits apply for CICA claims. There is usually a great deal of work to be done prior to submitting a claim and you should therefore seek advice as soon as possible.
The standard time limit for CICA claims is within two years of the incident taking place. In children's cases a claim must be received by the CICA within two years of their 18th birthday - ie by their 20th birthday. It is crucially important that such applications are not left until the last minute.
In exceptional cases the CICA can extend a deadline, but this is only in exceptional circumstances. If there is a criminal trial pending do not wait until after the trial has concluded to make a claim - it may be too late.
